NEW DELHI – An original teenage boy India injects himself with Mercury, a deadly substance. This reckless act was done because he wanted to be like a superhero X-Men , his favorite character.

The poor teenager then visited a trauma center in India with several non-healing wounds on his left arm. Medics suspected that substance abuse might be a factor so a psychiatric evaluation was carried out.

The teenager revealed that he purposely injected himself with Mercury which he managed to extract from the thermometer. At least, he did that three times.

The report said the teenager was inspired by the character Mercury from the X-Men franchise who has appeared in a number of comics. In the comics, Mercury’s body is composed of a non-toxic metal resembling Mercury, which he can reshape or solidify at will.

“Interestingly, he has a past history of multiple spider bites to simulate Spider-Man. Surprisingly, he has no other psychiatric problems and has a normal IQ,” the report reads, as reported by the Daily Star, Friday (1/10).

The doctor performed a toxicological examination to check the level of Mercury in the teenager’s blood. Luckily he missed all the major blood vessels while injecting the mercury, but the ulcer had to be cut and he had to undergo skin graft surgery.

“The patient did not develop clinical signs of chronic poisoning, proving that subcutaneous mercury injection carries a low risk of systemic toxicity, and histopathology plays an important role in the diagnosis,” the report said.
