Suara.com – A new study shows that every step of the walk can add years to your life. This is stated in a study published in the journal JAMA Network Open.
Launching from Medical Xpress, this research shows
that people who took about 7,000 steps a day had a 50 percent to 70 percent lower risk of death from all causes after 11 years of follow-up. The findings were held for black and white middle-aged men and women.
The study was led by Amanda Paluch, an assistant professor in the University of Massachusetts department of kinesiology.
“Step counter devices can be a useful tool for monitoring and promoting activity in the general public and for patient-physician communication,” Paluch said.

“Steps per day is a simple and easy metric to monitor and getting more steps per day is probably a good way to improve health,” he added.
Palutch added that 7,000 steps per day may be a big goal for many individuals who are not currently reaching this number.
“We also found in our study that accumulating more steps each day was associated with a gradually lower risk of death,” Paluch said.
“This is a very good study with a great message: live longer by walking more,” said Dr. Guy Mintz, director of cardiovascular health at Northwell Health at Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital in Manhasset, New York, who was not involved in the study.
