Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Megawati Sukarnoputri reminded that investment on the island of Bali should not only benefit investors. Megawati said she had questioned the plan to build an airport in North Bali.
“I said, lo, with Pram (Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung). Pram, please really, this is for the people of Bali. I said, don’t think self. The island of Bali has only a few inhabitants, so only investors want to come here. I want my Balinese people to become entrepreneurs and so on,” Megawati said in a written statement by the PDIP, Monday (16/1/2023).
“We are an independent, sovereign country. The people are free and active, free, uh, they still want to be slaves. Delivered to Mr. Jokowi. If you can write this. If you want scolded Pak Jokowi, I’m angry again. Later it was said that Ibu Mega showed her strength. Ouch, this person is for the people,” he added.
Megawati is currently in Bali with the Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto to attend the launching of the Renovation and Revitalization of Grand Inna Bali Beach as well as the Explanation and Presentation on the Construction of the ‘Mayo Hospital’ and the ‘Medicinal Plant Garden’.
SOE Minister Erick Thohir leading his staff was also present at the location. DPR Speaker Puan Maharani also took the time to attend during her activities in Bali with the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko and Bali Governor I Wayan Koster.
Returning to Megawati, the daughter of the 1st President of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno, said that the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, along with his deputy and former Minister of Tourism Wishnutama Kusubandio, had also explained about this development.

Megawati emphasized that she had reasons for refusing at that time because she was still in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The funds, said Megawati, could be allocated to help the people of Bali. In fact, he continued, he had also provided input to the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, namely that instead of building a new airport, it would be better to utilize Ngurah Rai Airport.
“I am ask to Pak Budi Karya, actually Ngurah Rai where sih runwaywas made another one? Try asking me now, if there is Buleleng (New Airport in North Bali), with yesterday’s pandemic until now, aren’t you drunk? Who’s there?” said Megawati.
