On October 27, 2023 local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, met with Sullivan, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs of the United States, in Washington.

The two sides conducted substantive and constructive strategic communication on Sino-US relations, high-level exchanges between the two countries and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and other international and regional issues of common concern.

Both sides agreed to work together to achieve a meeting between the two heads of state in San Francisco.

Wang Yi pointed out that the biggest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is “Taiwan independence,” and the biggest challenge facing China-US relations is also “Taiwan independence,” which must be resolutely opposed and reflected in specific policies and actions.

Wang Yi also elaborated on China’s solemn position on the South China Sea issue.

Both parties agreed to continue to maintain strategic communication.
