Xinhua News Agency, Johannesburg, July 24 (Reporter Xie Jiang) On July 24, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Wang Yi met with Russian Federation Security Council Secretary Patrushev in Johannesburg.
Wang Yi said that in the face of the turbulent and intertwined international situation, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Russia relations have withstood the test of international vicissitudes and become more mature, resilient and full of vitality. China is willing to further strengthen strategic communication with Russia, enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen the connection between the “Belt and Road” and the Eurasian Economic Union, enhance coordination and cooperation at the bilateral, regional and international levels, jointly oppose hegemony and power, constantly enrich the connotation of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era, and inject more new impetus into the multi-polarization of the world and the democratization of international relations.
Wang Yi said that the BRICS countries are all important emerging markets and major developing countries, and they are constructive forces representing the direction of world development. In recent years, there have been many bright spots in BRICS cooperation, including fruitful practical results and progress in mechanism building. China is willing to work closely with Russia and other BRICS countries to promote more solid, stronger and bigger BRICS cooperation and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
Patrushev said that under the current situation, Russia and China are actively practicing multilateralism, jointly opposing unilateralism, resisting hegemonic actions that use multilateral mechanisms to safeguard the interests of a few countries, and opposing the Cold War mentality that aggravates regional and international tensions, and has made important contributions to safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of Russia, China and developing countries, and maintaining regional and world peace and stability. The Russian side is willing to strengthen strategic communication with the Chinese side, expand practical cooperation, deepen coordination and cooperation within the framework of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and inject more stabilizing forces into the turbulent world.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
