Wang Yi Meets with Ahmadian, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council

On July 24, 2023 local time, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Wang Yi met with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ahmedian in Johannesburg.
Wang Yi expressed that China always views China-Iran relations from a strategic perspective. In February this year, President Xi Jinping and President Reahy reached an important consensus on the development of China-Iran relations in the next stage. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Iran, implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and promote the steady and long-term development of China-Iran relations.
Wang Yi said that China will continue to support Iran in safeguarding national sovereignty and national dignity, support Iran in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, support Iran’s efforts to safeguard national security, and oppose external forces interfering in Iran’s internal affairs. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen coordination with the Iranian side on the implementation of the China-Iran comprehensive cooperation plan, promote the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” cooperation, and help the Iraqi side improve people’s livelihood and promote economic and social development. China and Iran should jointly advocate multilateralism, safeguard the basic norms of international relations, safeguard the common interests of developing countries, and maintain regional peace and stability.
Ahmadian said that Iran attaches great importance to the Iran-China comprehensive strategic partnership. It is hoped that the two sides will strengthen dialogue and communication, tap the potential of cooperation, and deepen cooperation in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” and other fields, so as to benefit more people of the two countries. Iran appreciates China’s important role in achieving reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and welcomes China to continue to make positive contributions to regional peace. Iran attaches great importance to BRICS cooperation and is willing to continue to participate in this process through “Friends of BRICS” and other means.
