/ world today news/ China and the European Union should hold more dialogues between different institutions to give a new and strong impetus to the comprehensive strategic partnership between them, Chinese diplomat Wang Yi said during a telephone conversation on Sunday with the EU High Representative. for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
At present, high-level exchanges between China and the EU are maintaining a good momentum, and both sides believe that partnership is the most important feature of their relationship. In his words, more inter-institutional dialogues are needed to compensate for the interrupted exchanges between China and the EU during the three years of the COVID-19 pandemic and to give new and strong impetus to the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Borrell pointed out that the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative are not in competition but complementary, as both aim to promote global development. He stressed that he is looking forward to his upcoming visit to Beijing in the autumn and the start of a new strategic dialogue in preparation for this year’s EU-China leaders’ meeting.
Borel and Wang Yi also exchanged views on Ukraine, Niger and other international and regional issues of common interest.
