Xinhua News Agency, Kunming, August 16 (Reporter Zhao Peiran) On August 16, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, attended the opening ceremony of the 7th China-South Asia Expo in Kunming and delivered a speech. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Gunawadna, Lao Vice President Pani, Nepalese Vice President Yadav, and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Liu Quang attended and delivered speeches.
Wang Yi expressed that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Africa Expo, and also the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s proposal of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the concept of neighborhood diplomacy of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness. Over the past ten years, we have consolidated solidarity and cooperation to jointly maintain regional security and development environment. We continue to jointly build the “Belt and Road”, and we have made gratifying progress in connectivity, infrastructure, trade and investment. We have carried out in-depth friendly exchanges, adhered to the concept of openness and inclusiveness, and built a multi-level non-governmental exchange platform, giving new vitality to the interaction of millennium civilizations, laying a solid foundation of public opinion for the cooperation between the two major regions, and writing a new era of friendship between China and South Asia.
Wang Yi emphasized that China welcomes South Asian countries to continue to take the express train of China’s development and share the dividends of China’s development. We are willing to work with South Asian countries to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, continuously cultivate new growth drivers, build a development community, and contribute to the long-term stability, stability and prosperity of the region. Wang Yi put forward suggestions on deepening bilateral cooperation in four areas: first, to deepen strategic mutual trust; second, to deepen connectivity; third, to deepen economic and trade cooperation; and fourth, to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
All parties said that South Asian countries have actively promoted the high-quality joint construction of the “Belt and Road” with China and achieved fruitful results. The theme of this expo conforms to the trend of the times and meets the development needs of all countries. We thank China for creating an efficient cooperation platform to help South Asian countries take the express train of China’s development. We look forward to strengthening solidarity and cooperation with China to contribute to regional openness, inclusiveness, peace, stability and common development.
