Guangdong Province Governor Wang Weizhong led a delegation from Guangdong Province to visit Papua New Guinea from June 22nd to 24th. The purpose of the visit was to deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation between Guangdong Province and Papua New Guinea and contribute to the friendly development of China-Pakistan New Zealand.

During the visit, Wang Weizhong met with Papua New Guinea Prime Minister and Foreign Minister James Marape and Papua New Guinea Governor Povis Parkop. Wang Weizhong highlighted that Papua New Guinea is the first Pacific island country to sign a cooperation memorandum of understanding and cooperation plan on jointly building the “Belt and Road” with China. He emphasized the fruitful results achieved through the deepening exchanges and cooperation between Guangdong and Papua New Guinea in recent years. With Papua New Guinea’s rich natural resources and Guangdong’s huge market demand, the two sides have broad prospects for cooperation. Wang Weizhong expressed Guangdong’s willingness to work with Papua New Guinea to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and strengthen cooperation in various fields such as trade and investment, resources and energy, agriculture, forestry, fishery, education, medical care, and cultural tourism. The aim is to achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win results and contribute to the friendly development of the two countries.

James Marape expressed gratitude to China and Guangdong Province for their strong support for the development of Papua New Guinea. He welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest and cooperate in Papua New Guinea and expressed the country’s commitment to further deepen practical cooperation with China, especially Guangdong Province, in various fields such as investment, energy, agriculture, forestry, fishery, education, and cultural tourism. The goal is to achieve new results in friendly cooperation between the two sides.

During the visit, Wang Weizhong also attended the 5th anniversary of the opening of Butuka Academy, which symbolizes the friendly cooperation between Guangdong Province, Shenzhen City, and the Papua New Guinea Capital Administrative Region. He praised the high-quality construction of the school and its contribution to improving local education conditions. Wang Weizhong expressed Guangdong’s commitment to further strengthen cooperation with Papua New Guinea in the field of education and culture, aiming to benefit more people and pass down the profound friendship between the two peoples to future generations.

Additionally, Wang Weizhong attended a symposium of Chinese-funded enterprises in Papua New Guinea, where he learned about the development of the companies and encouraged them to seize opportunities, develop and innovate, and promote cooperation projects with high standards and quality. He also urged the enterprises to explore cooperation with Papua New Guinea in fields such as crop biological breeding, efficient planting, and agricultural product processing. The goal is to achieve more fruitful results and contribute to the friendly relations between China and Papua New Guinea.

Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Zeng Fanhua also attended the relevant activities during the visit.
