In previous editions we informed you about the upcoming arrival of the OS-9 police section to the O’Higgins region, this due to the criminal reality that the region is facing where kidnappings and crimes have caused commotion among its inhabitants.
That is why we spoke with General Max Jiménez, who provided details about the upcoming arrival of this specialized unit. He argued that there have been procedures that had great social connotation, such as the kidnapping of a businessman in the La Gonzalina sector and the crime of two farmers in the Malloa commune, for which the General Director of the institution, Ricardo Yáñez , saw the need, given the increase in violent crimes, to create the OS-9 to work jointly with the Prosecutor’s Office. This will allow the creation of powerful teams for specific investigative work.
Currently, the investigative work of the police is assumed by the SIP of the respective police units, however, the OS-9 will have specialized officers for specific investigations in the prosecution of complex crimes, such as homicides and types of kidnapping.
For Jiménez, currently crime has changed, the way of committing crimes has become more violent, with different modalities, which he believes occurs throughout the country, a methodology that comes from outside our borders, which is reflected in the fact that until recently At one time it was unthinkable to have a Rancagua kidnapping.
This has led to training, since police officers were trained to work with hostages, negotiating teams, so from the central level it was determined that officials would be trained in Colombia, a country that has a high rate of kidnappings, taking ideas and practices that will be applied in the national reality. This indicates, according to the general, that the police have the capacity to confront this type of crime, with the capacity to react. He cited as an example the arrest of the first person involved in the kidnapping of the businessman, which made it possible to continue a line of investigation that already has seven detainees.
The presence of the “Aragua Train” in this kidnapping is not a minor issue, which is why Max Jiménez assures that they seek to dismantle these gangs, added to the need to create the OS-9, so that this type of crimes do not continue to occur. , which creates a feeling of insecurity among the population. He maintains that crimes have not increased exponentially, but those that have occurred have been high-impact and violent, which draws the attention of the media and the community.
The fact that criminals are constantly changing their way of acting makes police adapt to current needs, improving training, training and improvement processes on a permanent basis, indicates the police authority.
He called on the community to report, since this is essential to georeference crimes and know where and what type of criminal acts are occurring. This allows us to maintain a rapprochement with the community and neighborhood associations. Communication with them allows us to know fundamental details, since they are the ones who know where, for example, drugs are sold, incivilities are committed, which causes these sources to be attacked and eliminated completely.
Regarding the criminal reality in the region, he indicates that a complex one is domestic violence, which occurs within the walls and that it is very difficult for the affected people to report, due to fear or other reasons. That is why it encourages reporting, since they have the capacity for this type of attention.
It is estimated that this March the general director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, will arrive in the region to officially sign and announce the details of the creation of the OS-9, as well as the number of officials and agencies that will be assigned to they.
