Wanderers beat Boston River 1-0 at the Artigas de Las Piedras stadium for the ninth date of the Apertura Tournament, climbing to third place with 16 points, two less than Cerro Largo and four less than Peñarol. The loser is penultimate with six units.
At the start the team led by the Venezuelan Daniel Alejandro Farías was a little more, who caressed the 1-0 at 9′, when a great personal play by Jonathan Urretaviscaya ended in a right cross that crashed into the crossbar.
Minutes later the bohemian cast of penalties went on to win. A handball by Guzmán Rodríguez in the red-and-green area, whistled by Leodán González at the behest of the VAR, allowed Diego Hernández to open the scoring at 18′ with a powerful left-footed shot.
Sergio Blanco’s team was about to increase the difference at 24′ with a ball put in the form of a center by Nicolás Albarracín that Nicolás Ferreira combed and passed a few centimeters from the vertical.
Boston River, which faded with the minutes, only disturbed again at 41′ with a free kick from Emiliano Gómez that forced Mauro Silveira to show off with a good save.
In the complement, Wanderers gave up the initiative and the red and green team did not take advantage of it, which hardly generated any danger. Beyond a crossed and barely deflected left foot from Alexander Machado, he barely missed the visitor’s goal until the final moments.
Only at 89′ did Silveira shine again by containing a left-footed shot from point-blank range by Emiliano Rodríguez from the edge of the small area. With suffering, the Prado team ended up clinching the victory, which continues to dream of the Apertura and aspires to reach the last date with title chances, when they visit Peñarol.
