The retirement of singers and actors is a much debated topic. Many people believe that those who were once at the top should not complain about finances now. If they didn’t think about the future, they only have themselves to blame. Wanda Kwietniewska, leader of the popular rock band Wanda i Banda, who found herself in a similar situation, expressed her opinion on this topic.

Wanda Kwietniewska on the low pensions of the stars
The singer says that some big star positions were held under the previous system, in which institutions consciously avoided ZUS grants to artists, taking advantage of legal loopholes.
During the times of the Polish People’s Republic, when art organizations dominated the market, many people were not aware of their obligation to pay social security contributions. Unfortunately, today is the one ignorance affects many stars who, after years of hard work, have to struggle with very low pensions.
“Nowadays, if an artist is popular, he earns a lot of money and can secure his future. He can put in money or pay every donation. He didn’t ‘someone told us in the 1980s that you are young, you are not thinking about retirement,’ he emphasizes.
Wanda Kwietniewska bitterly remembers how she started out as a young singer and “split her chin” for not taking care of her finances and the singer made a clear reference to the matter in the podcast ” Legends of show business”. “These were stolen institutions that ZUS knowingly did not pay us,” he says.
“You couldn’t organize a concert yourself, arrange a meeting with a sports hall, organizer or group. He wasn’t there. There had to be an intermediary, ie a platform or ZPR (United Entertainment Enterprises). We had contracts, but nothing came of it in terms of years of work. It’s like we weren’t there at all,” he said.
Wanda Kwietniewska and her retirement
The pension system, which does not take into account the artist’s many years of experience, means that Wanda Kwietniewska, with more than 40 years of experience on the stage, will receive a pension of only PLN 700.
“Why? Because this Grade School of Art was a company school and we had scholarships, but we were part-time. Those three years of school were counted for me and the fact that I gave birth to one baby. And that’s all, and more the system doesn’t see me. He doesn’t see that I work, I’ve been on the stage for forty-two years“ – appearing in the podcast.
