Walmart will open up to a whole new means of delivery. The retail giant will now use drones to offer its customers same day delivery service. This service will first be available in 6 states of the United States.
This isn’t really a new project for Walmart. The company has already passed years of testing the new system. We know that the latter will make it possible to satisfy millions of households in addition. On average, deliveries can be made en 30 minutes minimum.

The first states to benefit from Walmart drone deliveries will be Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Utah and Virginia. The new service will have the potential to serve up to 4 millions of households.
years of preparation
It was in 2015 that Walmart began considering delivery drone technology. The company submitted a authorization request near the FAA or Federal Aviation Administration to be able to perform home deliveries and curbside pickups.
In 2020, the adventure continued with the signing of a Partnership Agreement with drone delivery service providers DroneUp et Zipline to test home delivery of goods. Last year, Walmart invested in the company DroneUp and collaborated to set up drone “hubs” to carry out delivery trials.
Satisfactory results
The delivery tests were carried out using a special dispensation from the FAA that allows delivery flights flown by certified pilots to pass over moving vehicles and people. According to Walmart, hundreds of deliveries have now been made to existing hubs and the results are promising. The company will now expand its network to 34 sites where one million parcels per year will be delivered.
According to information, in these sites which are in the 6 states, customers will be able to place orders from 8 am until 8 pm. Walmart offers tens of thousands of items that can be delivered by drones to a price of 3.7 euros. Parcels will arrive at customers in at least half an hour and will be lowered into the yard via cables.
