WALMART BEATS THE CONSENSUS IN THE USA AND RAISES ITS FORECAST

(Reuters) – US retailer Walmart raised its annual forecast for same-store sales in the United States on Tuesday after beating analysts’ estimates thanks in part to back-to-school spending after more than a year of teaching distance.

Sales excluding fuel from the group’s US stores open for at least a year rose 5.2% in the second quarter, against + 3.69% expected by analysts, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

The world number one in mass distribution has benefited from the stimulus measures taken during the pandemic, which include vouchers and tax credits.

For its 2022 fiscal year, Walmart now expects same-store sales growth of 5% to 6% in the United States compared to less than 5% previously.

Its online sales growth slowed in the second quarter to 6% in the second quarter after 37% in the first and 97% last year.

Its operating profit jumped 21.4% to $ 7.35 billion (6.24 billion euros), giving adjusted earnings per share of $ 1.78.
