The corona situation is serious throughout the country, but the infection figures have been rocketing in recent weeks, especially in Brussels and Wallonia. Both regions currently have the highest number of infections in all of Europe.
Federal and state governments announced tightening last week and today. But Wallonia is now taking it one step further on its own. Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo announced a large number of stricter measures at a press conference, which will apply until November 19.
The most notable measure is curfew. There is a curfew for the entire Belgian territory from midnight to 5 a.m., but Wallonia is expanding it. Until November 19, everyone there must stay at home between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., with exceptions for those who need medical care or are on the road for work, for example.
In addition, the French community government bans all sports competitions and training for amateurs, with the exception of children under the age of twelve. In higher education, all lessons will be held remotely until at least 19 November.
