New administrator of the University of Liège, Julien Nicaise (44 years old) will end the mandate of his predecessor and intends to request a new 4-year lease in September 2026.
The University of Liège (ULiège) recently announced the appointment of Julien Nicaise (44 years old) to the position of administrator of the alma mater. He replaces Anne Girin whose dismissal, in June 2024, caused a controversy within the University and gave rise to an extremely urgent appeal to the Council of State. The high administrative court ruled in favor of Anne Girin by suspending her dismissal forcing ULiège to compromise to obtain his departure. Julien Nicaise will finish Anne Girin’s mandate which expires on September 30, 2026. Then there will be an evaluation to decide what happens next, but the new administrator has told us that he intends to request a new 4-year lease. With his appointment at ULiège, he will leave his position as general administrator of Wallonia-Brussels Education (WBE), the organizing power of all educational establishments which depended on the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. The date of his departure has not been set, but WBE will have to hurry or find a transitional solution, because currently, according to our information, its Board of Directors (CA) is in current affairs and it is up to us that the appointment of the new CA would be linked to that of RTBF.
