Railroad
From Westbadenaktuell
Wallauer’s brace has been debated for many years. It is now certain: Construction should start in 2025 and everything should be finished in 2027. The Wallauer Spange will thus ensure faster connections between Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Darmstadt and the airport.

The Wallauer Spange should ensure an improved rail connection between Wiesbaden, Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Another important step was taken: at the turn of the year, Deutsche Bahn (DB) submitted the documents for the plan approval process to the Federal Railway Authority.
In addition to a 108-page explanatory report, this includes other attachments such as floor plans, a construction logistics concept or information about the planned stop near Wallau/Delkenheim.
Interested parties can already find most of the documents on the project website www.wallauer-spange.de see. Construction is scheduled to start in 2025. Commissioning of the four-kilometer route is scheduled for the end of 2027.
Four kilometers fill a gap in the Hessian railway network
Tarek Al-Wazir, Hessian Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport and Housing, says: “Short distance, big effect: the only four kilometer long Wallauer Spange fills a gap in the railway network of Hesse.
It makes the train in the Rhine-Main area much more attractive, because the travel time between Wiesbaden main station and Frankfurt Airport long-distance train station has been halved from 32 to 16 minutes.
Eight to nine minutes to the airport from Delkenheim
From the new stop near Wallau/Delkenheim, commuters will be able to reach Wiesbaden in one direction and the airport in the other in just eight to nine minutes. The Wallauer Spange is also the prerequisite for the Hessen Express, which will cut the journey time between Wiesbaden and Darmstadt by a third to 30 minutes.
Advanced project from overall measure
In 2016, I suggested to the then CEO of DB AG, Rüdiger Grube, that the Wallauer Spange be spun off as the first project from the overall Rhine/Main-Rhine/Neckar project and implemented in advance.
It took six years from the initial ideas in the “high-level talks” between the railroads and the state government to the submission of planning documents, which is a long time but still fast enough for a railroad project. I am very pleased that DB is continuing to carry this project forward”.
“Hessian Express”
The professor. Knut Ringat, Managing Director and Management Spokesman of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund comments: “With the Wallauer closure we can offer our passengers a completely new product: the “Hessen-Express”.
This not only brings the three cities of Wiesbaden, Darmstadt and Frankfurt closer together, but also the airport is only a quarter of an hour’s drive from Wiesbaden and Darmstadt.
The Hessen-Express will also call at Wallau/Delkenheim on the new connection line between Wiesbaden main station and Frankfurt Airport long-distance train station and from there continue on to Darmstadt and Frankfurt.
The Wallauer brace makes the splints more attractive
With Wallauer Spange, we not only make the railway more attractive for everyone in Darmstadt or Wiesbaden, but also for a catchment area of millions in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. Furthermore, with the Wallauer Spange we are finally getting new railway lines that complement and relieve the existing ones”.
