The Dow Jones fell no less than 1190 points in one day to 25,766 points.
Growing fear
The large losses are due to the fear of the corona virus. Many companies have since announced that they are considering declining revenues due to the slowdown in the economy due to the virus.
But the fear is now extra in the US because a first corona patient has also been found in the country, of which it is unclear how the virus contracted. As far as known, this person had no contact with known cases and the patient had not been abroad.
This feeds the fear of an outbreak of the virus that cannot be controlled, and therefore potentially has major consequences for companies and the economy.
Bad week
The Dow Jones was not the only index that made a dive. The much wider S & P500 also fell by 4.4 percent and the Nasdaq tech fair even fell by 4.6 percent.
Due to the bad trading day of today, the last trading week is the worst week since the economic crisis.
