Santiago was reported to have been arrested by the Iranian intelligence agency from Sakhas, a border region of Iran. Santiago recently visited the burial site of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman who died in the custody of the Iranian Religious Affairs Police. It was reported that the arrest was made after this.
Kurdish human rights organizations and European media confirmed the arrest. But the Spanish authorities are not ready to respond in this regard.
