Walk of Fame: Pioneer in Assisted Reproduction | Tijuana News

Tijuana, BC.- Making couples become parents is one of the accomplishments of Dr. Óscar Javier León Martínez, who is one of the reproductive biologists most recognized in the region.

At 29 years as a pro, he has expressed that he will continue to build on his skills and his own fertility knowledge taking advantage of technology. In this sense, León Martínez shared the case of a couple who, despite their young age, could not procreate naturally.

She explained that she was a 36-year-old woman who belonged to a large family of 11 siblings; while the 42-year-old man had three siblings who opted not to have children.

In vitro fertilization

The couple underwent in vitro fertilization and twin male pregnancy was achieved up to the third session.

“The family was super happy. But imagine how the father, grandfather felt, he was the most excited. He hugged me and thanked me with tears,” the doctor said.

He expressed the feeling that he feels proud and committed to practicing his profession in the age of technology, as it was very limited before.

We always take it very carefully, because not everything is technology. A machine lacks the touch a doctor might have with their hand to detect a problem.

“It is very important, but we must not leave aside the warmth that human beings have when they treat another human being, especially the emotional part,” said Óscar Javier León Martínez, who also works as gynecologist, obstetrician and pediatrician.

it’s wild

He is a graduate of Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) and National Perinatology Institute, between the Houses of Study.

Now, aged 59, he advises young people who have chosen the health sciences to be consistent and responsible, despite their peers belittling their efforts.

“I followed my intuition, my vocation as a doctor. This is the advice I would give to the new generation of young people. Don’t listen to people you can’t. Listen to the people who encourage you and tell you it can be done.”

Notable person from Tijuana

Óscar Javier León Martínez stood out as Featured character in Tijuana Innovadora and pledges to continue practicing medicine.

“With all humility I want to say that it is a source of pride for me, but I don’t believe it. I’m still the same, I work in my practice, I take care of my patients, I take care of my family. I don’t think it’s extraordinary. However, my work, if people see it that way, has helped, for me it is very satisfying,” she said.
