In Florida it will soon be taboo to talk about gender and sexuality in primary schools. Florida’s conservative governor is about to sign the so-called Don’t Say Gay Act, as the ordinance is called by opponents. This law prescribes that teachers are not allowed to talk to children up to the age of 9 about gender, orientation, sexuality and LGBTI topics. At least seven other states are preparing similar legislation.
Opponents of the law think it is a mistaken development. They believe that there should be room for such a conversation and for discovering yourself, especially at school. Protesters gathered in Miami this weekend to speak out against the bill:
