Waiting time between first and second jab shorter from Monday

People who make a vaccination appointment with the GGD from Monday have to wait ten days less for their second shot than they do now. That is what care minister Hugo de Jonge said during the corona debate in the House of Representatives.

Now there is a break of 35 days between the first and second injection. That will be 25 days.

The OMT wrote in the emergency advice of last Friday that vaccination slots remain open. This means that vaccination can be done faster than is currently happening. With new appointments, this is possible from Monday.

‘Don’t call now’

De Jonge also said that it is still being examined whether people who have already made an appointment can bring forward the appointment for their second injection. He urged people not to call now. That does happen, and that is why it becomes “a mess” at the GGD, according to the minister.

From Friday, 60 to 64-year-olds who have only had their first shot of AstraZeneca can call the GGD to make an appointment to have the second shot of Pfizer’s vaccine, if they wish.

Last Monday, the Health Council advised that such a heterogeneous vaccination (two shots from different brands) is also safe and effective. Since it is no longer so busy at the pricking streets, the minister expects that these people will soon be next.

‘I’m really sorry about that’

The fact that in some parts of the country many people in their early sixties have still not been vaccinated by their GP with a second shot of AstraZeneca is not due to the deliveries, the minister said in response to questions from the ChristenUnie. The last deliveries have already arrived at the general practitioners in mid-May, so they have had a lot of time, says De Jonge.

According to him, sometimes GPs choose not to change the appointment for the second injection. “I’m really sorry about that. But I can’t speed it up except again appeal to GPs to get the second shot soon,” said De Jonge. According to him, this has already been done many times.
