The European Film Academy Awards will be held in Reykjavík on 10 December. It is the most important European film judging event, usually bringing together the brightest actors, directors and other film professionals. The preselection of films, carried out by over four thousand members of the Film Academy from all over Europe, has already taken place and the nominated films have been announced. Among them, Latvia’s name can also be seen in the category of Best European Animated Feature Film: Signe Baumane’s film “My Marriage Project” is nominated.

In the program, we take a look at the list of nominations, paying special attention to the works that are currently or will soon be seen in Latvian cinemas.

Five works nominated in the “Best European Film” category: a modern portrait of Empress Sisi in an Austrian film “Corset”a Belgian coming-of-age drama “To close”a Swedish comedy “Triangle of Sadness”a Danish police drama “Holy Spider” and semi-autobiographical by the Spanish director Carla Simon “Alcarras”.

Nominated for Best European Actress Vicky Cripps for the role of Empress Sissy in the film “Corset”, Zara Amira Ibrahimi for the role in the film “The Holy Spider”, Sejdufeatured in Mia Hansen-Löwe’s One Fine Morning Penelope Cruz for her work in Pedro Almadóvar’s film “Parallel Mothers” and a German comedian Captain of Meltema for his role in the movie ‘Rabbi Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush’.

There are nominees in the Best Actor category Paul Mescal for his role in Aftersun, Eden Dambrin from the movie “Close” or “Tuvu”, Elliot Crossett Howe for work in the film “Dievzeme”, Pierfrancesco Favino for the role in the film ‘Nostalgia’ and actor ‘Sad Triangle’. Zlatko Burics.

A very special nomination for the European Film Academy Award goes to Eden Dambrin, the lead actor of the Belgian film “Closer”, who was only 13 years old at the time of filming.
