Since Tuesday, the BORG Althofen has been in distance learning – in other words, in distance learning. Mathematics Professor Irmgard Hausharter teaches her students via the Internet, including an electronic blackboard. The number of students who tested positive recently rose sharply. The situation has worsened, because in the sixth and eighth grades there were at least two positive PCR tests, said headmaster Hannes Scherzer. In addition to the BORG Althofen, the ORG St. Ursula and the WIMO in Klagenfurt are also in distance learning.
But individual classes also had to be closed by the authorities, 157 school classes are affected throughout Carinthia.
“Five percent tested positive”
From Tuesday to Wednesday alone, 446 students tested positive by PCR test. “Five percent of all students are currently testing positive,” said education director Isabella Penz. There have been over 1,000 positive antigen tests in the last week alone.
The upcoming semester break should bring a relaxation of the situation. However, the results of the almost completed first semester show that the face-to-face lessons were justified. “One in ten schools has never had a positive PCR test at all,” Penz said. Only twelve schools were closed.
Relaxation after holidays
After the holidays, there will be the first loosening up, elementary school students will no longer need a mask at school. Meanwhile, the Director of Education is planning further relaxation with regard to school events, ski courses and the elimination of the mask requirement for the remaining students. It is not yet clear exactly when these easing measures will come.
