The cleanup after a truck overturned on county road 51 above Valdresflye continues Thursday.

– It is not known when the road can be opened again. The estimated finish time has been postponed several times, says traffic operator Mikael Olsen at Vegtrafikksentralen to NRK on Thursday afternoon.

The temporary end time is set at nine o’clock.

– Aluminum slag can ignite in contact with water, and can only be extinguished with salt. That has certainly complicated the cleanup, Olsen replied.

Slipped off the road Wednesday night

– It may take some time before the road opens, says Mats Westby Aamodt, operations manager in the Innlandet police district.

Just after 10.30pm on Wednesday night, emergency services received a report of a truck train that had slid off the road and overturned on county road 51 above Valdresflye.

– It was reported that it was very slippery on the site, said the operations manager.

The train driver was sent to the emergency department for tests.

– As long as the cargo is lying as it is now, there is no danger. The site is under control, but the cargo must be reloaded before the truck can be retrieved, says Aamodt.

It is not known when the recovery will begin and the road may reopen.
