Wagon train loaded with cars overturned in Rauma

A truck train slid off the road and overturned in Rauma municipality on Sunday.

A truck train fully loaded with cars slid off the road in Rauma municipality in Møre og Romsdal on Sunday. The police say that the wagon train must have been on its way to Ålesund, where the cars were to be sold.

– We received a message at 07.40. It’s a car that has skidded off the road and tipped onto its side, and it’s loaded with cars. Both lanes are open, and there should be no injuries, says operations manager in Møre and Romsdal police district, Finn Harald Saltskår, to VG.

– We were on site in the initial phase and spoke to the driver. He says he is ok and has also been checked by an ambulance, says Saltskår.

The incident happened at Veblungsnes near Åndalsnes. Operations manager Saltskår says at 09.40 that a tow truck has been ordered, but that it will take some time before it is on site. The recovery of the wagon train may have an impact on traffic.

– The roads are a bit wintry, and a lot of snow has fallen, so the conditions are a bit difficult in some places, says Saltskår, and adds that the incident appears to be a traffic accident due to the slippery road surface.

Operations manager Tor-Andre Gram Franck says that the wagon train was on its way to Ålesund.

– As I understand it, there were new cars for sale that were on their way to Ålesund, says Gram Franck.

The road conditions in Møre and Romsdal are, however, fine compared to a little further north in the country. Snow and wind are causing major traffic problems in central Norway, and the police are asking drivers to leave their cars parked.
