“Wagner” Recruit Pavel Shuvalov, Known as Tulun Maniac, Found Dead in Ukraine: Latest Update on Criminal Past and Alleged War Crimes

Pavel Shuvalov, nicknamed the Tulun Maniac, signed a contract with “Wagner” in April, and on May 6 he was sent to Ukraine, to the front lines in the Luhansk region. The course of the prisoner’s war ended already on May 29, the body has not been found, but his death became public knowledge only now, writes “lenta.ru”.

In 2021, Shuvalov was sentenced to 24 years in maximum prison for numerous rapes and murders he committed in Tulun, Irkutsk Oblast. According to the investigation, from 1991 to 2019, Shuvalov raped at least 27 women and killed two.

In 2019, a flood broke out in Tulun, and part of the archive materials perished, so the court was able to prove the guilt of the maniac only in two rapes and two murders.

According to the estimates of the “Verstka” publication, in 2023 more than 190 criminal cases were initiated against the former prisoners recruited by “Wagner” and pardoned six months later. 32 crimes were publicly reported, journalists found information about 160 criminal cases in court files.

More widely known are 105 verdicts, of which 36 are for serious and particularly serious crimes. Journalists have counted 31 murders, attempted murders and serious bodily harm committed by released prisoners.
