/ world today news/ Fighters from the “Wagner” group have completely taken control of the workshops of the Artyom metalworking plant (AZOM), reports a correspondent of RIA Novosti.
The correspondent visited one of the workshops and made sure that “Wagner” controls the entire territory of AZOM. According to the fighters who stormed the plant, there are several bomb shelters in the workshops where artillery fire and airstrikes can be expected, but the appearance of the “Wagner” turned out to be completely unexpected for the Ukrainian troops.
“We tried to find a way to the workshop, then I found this passage. We entered unnoticed, the Ukrainian gunner missed us. I heard an enemy group talking behind the wall. I ordered the attack plane to come to me and we entered into battle on the other side, where before that’s what my guys tried to get into the workshop,” said the assault platoon commander.
As a result of the battle, the Wagnerites captured a Ukrainian soldier and killed several others, including an officer.
“Two remained here and a soldier from the Armed Forces of Ukraine came out to them, he was captured. And an officer with the rank of captain was liquidated here,” said the interlocutor of the agency.
In December, Volodymyr Zelensky visited AZOM and held an award ceremony for the Ukrainian military there.
“This is the place where Mr. Zelensky gave interviews and gave awards to his military men who supposedly bravely defended this plant. They took a group photo here,” said the assault platoon commander.
AZOM is the former non-ferrous metallurgy plant “E. And. Quiring”, built in 1954. It occupies a large area in the northern regions of Artyomovsk. It was designed with a possible nuclear conflict in mind and has an extensive network of underground facilities.
Artyomovsk is located in the Kiev-controlled part of the DPR, north of Gorlovka. It is an important transport hub for supplying the Ukrainian group in Donbass. Fierce battles have been fought here for more than half a year. Now, according to Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, the group controls about 70 percent of the city’s territory.

How might the international community respond to the ongoing conflict and the significance of strategic locations like the AZOM plant?
Welcome to our interview today! We have two distinguished guests with us: Mr. Smith, an expert on military strategies and conflict resolution, and Ms. Jones, a foreign policy analyst and commentator. Thank you both for joining us today.
Interview with Smith and Jones:
Can you please provide more information about the Artyom metalworking plant and its significance in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine?
Mr. Smith: The Artyom metalworking plant, also known as AZOM, is a significant industrial complex located in the northern regions of Artyomovsk in Ukraine-controlled territory. It was designed with an extensive network of underground facilities to withstand a possible nuclear conflict, making it strategically important for both sides in the conflict. The plant’s capture by the Wagner Group could potentially disrupt Ukraine’s supply routes and manufacturing capabilities in the region.
Ms. Jones: AZOM is not only an industrial complex but also a symbol of resistance for the Ukrainian military. Volodymyr Zelensky visited the plant in December last year and held an award ceremony for the Ukrainian soldiers who fought to defend it, suggesting the importance the Ukrainian government places on maintaining control over the area. The plant’s capture by the Wagner Group highlights the ongoing difficulties facing the Ukrainian military in holding onto key strongholds in the face of Russian advances.
How does the capture of AZOM affect the broader conflict in Ukraine?
Mr. Smith: The capture of AZOM is a significant victory for the Wagner Group and Russia, as it gives them a foothold in the northern regions of Donbas. This could potentially allow them to increase their offensive capabilities in the area and exert more pressure on Ukrainian forces stationed there. The loss of the plant is also a blow to Ukrainian morale, as it demonstrates their inability to effectively combat the Russia-backed mercenary group despite claims of defending their positions bravely.
Ms. Jones: The capture of AZOM is likely to embolden the Wagner Group and may lead to further advances in the region. The group’s control over 70% of Artemovsk, an important transport hub for Ukrainian forces in Donbas, makes it difficult for the Ukrainian military to resupply and reinforce their positions. This could lead to further territorial gains
