Wages fell by 94 percent in real terms

Employees in finance improved by 4.2 percent, employees in the real estate market by 2.4 percent. Workers in accommodation, food and hospitality ended up at zero. In public administration, the real average wage fell by 8.4 percent, in health care by 7.6 percent and in education by seven percent.

The average wage rose, the real wage fell

The average wage in the Czech Republic in the first quarter of this year increased by 7.2 percent year on year to CZK 37,929. The employees thus improved by an average of 2533 crowns. However, after taking inflation into account, gross monthly earnings fell by an average of 3.6 percent compared to the same period last year.

Dalibor Holý, Director of the Labor Market and Equal Opportunities Statistics Department of the CZSO, informed that during the pandemic years 2020 and 2021, the gap in earnings by gender decreased, mainly because women work in sectors where more was added.

“The largest increases in median wages in two covid years can be found in nurses and teachers other than university nurses. These are very feminized jobs, “said Holý.

He added that when comparing the salary levels of teachers, it is necessary to take into account that they are specialists with a requirement for higher education. In 2021, the median wage was CZK 50,223. “The shift of teachers to values around 49,000 crowns was therefore just a closing of the salary difference,” he added.

The median salary for nurses specializing in salaries increased from CZK 46,791 in 2019 to CZK 63,133 in 2021. The median salary divides employees into two equal parts with lower and higher salaries.
