As a result, it was much quieter at the counter of the fifth period of the Emergency Measure Bridging Employment (NOW) than in previous periods. In the fifth period for wage support, employers who suffered a loss of at least 20% in turnover over a period of three months could apply for an allowance. This amounts to a maximum of 85% of the wage costs.

In total, the UWV received 45,933 applications for the past three months. More than 1,400 of these were rejected. €1.4 billion in advances was transferred to employers who did meet the conditions. In the first instance, the UWV will transfer an advance of 80% of the total aid.

The need for that support was clearly less in the fifth period. In the fourth period, for example, 74,000 applications were granted, which together accounted for advances of €3.2 billion. At the first counter for the NOW scheme, 139,500 aid applications were still approved. In addition, the agency paid out €7.9 billion in advances.

Of all regions, Amsterdam and the surrounding area accounted for the majority of applications that were awarded. This involved 6610 applications. The Rijnmond and Midden-Utrecht regions followed with 3467 and 2394 applications respectively.
