WADA calls for a suspension for Jannik Sinner

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) requesting a sanction of up to two years for Jannik Sinner. Although the court of the Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) considered the Italian tennis player “not guilty” after two positive tests for clostebol in March, WADA considers that the decision was not appropriate and has intervened to reverse it.

Clostebol is a banned substance in sport, and although the initial court exonerated Sinner, WADA is not happy with that ruling. According to its statement, the organization requests that the tennis player be suspended for a period of one to two years. However, WADA does not seek to annul any competitive results, except those that have already been disqualified by the ITIA.

Meanwhile, Sinner continues to compete. This same Thursday, while the appeal was made public, the Italian managed to advance to the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 in Beijing by beating the Russian Román Safiulin. In his next match, he will face the Czech Jiri Lehecka, who eliminated the Spanish Roberto Bautista.

We will have to wait for the CAS to issue its verdict on the appeal presented by WADA. If a sanction is confirmed, Sinner could see his career interrupted at a crucial moment, although his performance on the slopes does not seem to be affected by the controversy. @mundiario
