The manager of Waasland Shopping, Vincent Hermans, counted around 26,000 visitors on this first sales day. He thinks it’s a good start: “We are even doing slightly better than last year.” He hopes for a big crowd next weekend, when there will be a shopping Sunday. “To conclude the Christmas holidays, we are aiming for 34 to 35,000 visitors this weekend.”
Several visitors chose Waasland Shopping as an outing in bad weather. The discounts, which are quite high here and there from the first day, are a bonus. This is a trend that Hermans has been seeing for some time: “The tendency to offer high discounts from the start has been noticeable for some time, but we now notice that almost all stores have jumped on the bandwagon.”
