Pyrogasification consists of thermal treatment of dry materials for the production of electricity and heat. To develop it in France, W & nergy is raising 7 million euros to finance two first projects, in Brittany and Auvergne.
The brand new Breton holding company W & nergy embarks on pyrogasification using the patented German technology of the Spanner Re2 group. To carry out her projects, she has just raise 7 million euros provided by the Eiffel Gaz Vert fund in the amount of 5 million, the balance being shared between the family group Johes and the company 1M86, both positioned in renewable energies. The first two projects planned in Brittany and Clermont-Ferrand have already been selected under the Biomass 5.3 call for tenders, launched by the Energy Regulatory Commission. “The pyrogasification units will be commissioned at the end of 2022”, project Adrien Haller, the president of W & nergy.
The construction of the site and the operation of the pyrogasification system will be entrusted to the company Energy &+, of which Adrien Haller is also the manager and main shareholder. Founded 15 years ago in Saint-Nolff in Morbihan, it has 90 anaerobic digestion and biomass systems installations to its credit, and plans to rapidly double its workforce by 20 people.

Still very little used in France but very widespread especially across the Rhine, pyrogasification consists of a heat treatment of dry materials – mainly wood – by pyrolysis then gasification, in order to obtain electricity, synthesis gas as well as an organic charcoal, a true natural amendment. The production of the Breton site will be 0.8 electric megawatt (MWe) and that of Clermont-Ferrand of 2 MWe. These facilities will be supplied with raw materials from sawmills and other specialists in the wood industry. It will also be possible to use Solid Recovered Fuels (SRF). The electricity will be resold and injected into the network, while the heat will be sold to manufacturers located in the immediate vicinity. In Brittany, it will be a manufacturer of reconstituted wood logs.
For all of its five projects – the following three installations will be located in Guadeloupe and Guyana – W & nergy plans to invest 40 million euros, supported by bank financing complementary to this first fundraising.
