VW’s GPS car locator Car-Net service allows VW vehicle owners to remotely track their cars. In one case of a kidnapping, however, the Car-Net service did not want to help because the subscription had expired. This was confirmed by the Lake County Illinois Sheriff’s Office in a statement on Facebook.
In the Lake County incident, Volkswagen Car-Net was immediately contacted in search of a stolen vehicle and kidnapped child. However, there was a delay. This is because Volkswagen Car-Net did not want to track the vehicle until the reactivation payment for the tracking device was received in the stolen Volkswagen. That writes “golem”.
The stolen vehicle was eventually found and the child rescued. However, the child’s mother was seriously injured while trying to prevent the perpetrator from stealing the car. There is no trace of the perpetrator.
