VW will demand compensation from the former head of the group and the director of Audi

German carmaker Volkswagen will demand damages for the exhaust fraud scandal after former boss Martin Winterkorn and former Audi director Rupert Stadler. Volkswagen said this on Friday after the Supervisory Board meeting.

After an extensive investigation, the company came to the conclusion that both top managers neglected the care of a proper manager, but did not find any mistakes on the part of other members of management. The DPA informed about it.

He has not yet stated how large a financial amount the group will demand from former bosses. The investigation aimed to find out whether Winterkorn and Stadler were to blame for the management and control deficiencies that emerged after the diesel outbreak in September 2015. Volkswagen then admitted in response to allegations by the US authorities that it had installed about 11 million diesel cars after worldwide software that allowed you to manipulate tests.

The emissions scandal has sparked global opposition to diesel cars, and Volkswagen has already paid tens of billions of euros in fines, various settlements and other costs for litigation.

Winterkorn resigned as Volkswagen chief shortly after the scandal broke out. He stressed, however, that he was not aware of any mistakes. Due to the diesel affair, he will also stand in court in Braunschweig, which should start hearing the case in mid-September. In addition to Wintekorn, the court will review the role of four other top managers, some of whom have already left the company. Stadler is already responsible for complicating the exhaust tests before the Munich district court.
