VW: Volkswagen is looking for 2500 software experts for a new IT unit – my money

Software developers wanted at VW!

Volkswagen plans to hire 2500 experts for its new software unit next year. In addition, VW will train hundreds of software developers themselves, as the carmaker announced on Sunday in Wolfsburg.

From the beginning of 2020, as already announced, VW wants to bring together the competencies in vehicle IT and significantly increase them in the medium term.

Goal: By 2025, there should be more than 10,000 IT experts, including external hires, company takeovers and specialists from the company’s own brands. They should bundle the responsibilities for vehicle software, in the end also in their own brand.

“In the coming year we want to get around 2500 experts on board in the future fields of mobility from electrification to digitization, software development and connectivity in Germany alone,” said VW Human Resources Director Gunnar Kilian.

The experts are needed to develop and promote electromobility, networking and digitalization of future vehicle generations. The proportion of self-developed software at VW should increase from currently less than 10 to more than 60 percent, as the automaker had already announced.

The new software unit is said to have locations in Wolfsburg, Ingolstadt and Berlin as well as in Seattle and Beijing, among others.
