Car dealer. VW wants to save spring as the peak car season: the new Golf 8 Rabbit can be ordered online at a competitive price of 19,990 euros. Deliveries are made after the lockdown.

With online offers, car giant Volkswagen wants to motivate the car buyers who normally flock to the car dealerships in spring – but are currently locked in because of the initial restrictions to combat the corona virus. To this end, VW is relaunching the Golf Rabbit as a bestseller: The special model has been popular with customers since prehistoric times.

The main feature of the Rabbit is the price: the new entry into the Golf 8 range starts at 19,990 euros (under certain conditions). The Golf Pro, introduced as a limited special model at the start of the new Golf 8, can still be ordered.

The new Golf 8

The Golf 8 was launched last year and has been available since March 2020. Now the Rabbit version also takes the stage: Even in the 22nd year of its existence, the Rabbit brings what the tried-and-tested name promises – namely, convenient equipment at a low price. However, buyers have to cut back on engine performance.

Specifically, the new Golf Rabbit is available as a 1.0 TSI with 66 kW / 90 PS. The equipment includes digital cockpit, multifunction steering wheel, LED headlights and LED taillights as standard, as well as Lane Assist, Lane Assist, Car2X, fatigue detection, air conditioning Climatronic, radio composition and more.

When it comes to the price, the Volkswagen Group relies on its in-house financial program – only then is there a full discount: The basic price is 21,490 euros. With financing through the Porsche Bank and insurance through the Porsche insurance, however, the Rabbit is available from 19,990 euros.

In mathematical terms, this means a substantial discount compared to the standard models: The classic Golf 8 is available with 115, 130 and 150 hp (diesel or gasoline) from just under 27,000 euros. Discounts that you as a buyer could negotiate personally with the dealer are not included.

Golf 8 Pro with more power

The limited special model Golf 8 Pro is almost on the other side of the current golf offer: It is available as a 1.5 TSI with 96 kW / 130 PS. There is also adaptive chassis control DCC including driving profile selection, 30-color ambient lighting, Car2X, digital cockpit, driving assistant “Travel Assist”, head-up display, IQ-Light LED matrix headlights, multifunction camera, panorama pop-up / sliding roof, reversing camera, Sports comfort seats in the front, voice control, winter package etc.

The starting price of the Golf 8 Pro is 30,445 euros, which is around 9,000 euros higher than that of the Golf 8 Rabbit. Anyone opting for financing and insurance through Porsche Bank starts at 28,945 euros.

Reserve online, buy from the dealer and collect

The highlight from VW’s point of view is of course the pre-order: If you are interested in the new Golf Rabbit or the Golf 8 Pro, you can already secure your car for a reservation fee of 100 euros.

The vehicle is configured and reserved online – and the desired dealer can also be selected. As of summer 2020, pre-bookers can convert their reservation into a real order, i.e. conclude the purchase contract directly with the dealer and call the new Golf their own, says VW. An important part of buying a car in pre-Corona times, namely a personal visit to the dealer including bargaining over the purchase price, is currently only possible to a limited extent or virtually.

The competition is also online

Order now online and pick it up in summer is also the motto at the group sister Audi: There is 1000 euros as an “Audi Online Deal” when you pick up until June 30, 2020. And of course there are also the big golf competitors such as Ford Focus and Renault Clio Configurable online and can be pre-ordered for the time after Corona.
