VVD MPs refrain from reading the Speech from the Throne on Prince’s Day – The Daily Standard

About 15 VVD MPs will deliver the Speech from the Throne, which is read by King Willem-Alexander on Prince’s Day, not listening. Obviously, there is no point in being the next one who, like Grapperhaus, makes a mistake and thus ends up in the spotlight!

The Speech from the Throne is already being moved from the Ridderzaal to the Grote Kerk. The number of guests has been reduced from more than a thousand to 250. All seats can then be placed sufficiently apart.

Yet these VVD members are terrified that the one and a half meters cannot be maintained! And that’s not because they don’t trust the people who take the measures. It is pure fear of such an unhappy photo moment. The kind where someone just taps the other on the back. Then you hang, it’s that simple.

Grapperhaus barely got away with it because he is an important CDA minister and because it was his wedding. I do not think VVD MPs enjoy the same protection. These are more easily ‘cut loose’ and replaced, especially when it concerns low-ranking VVD members on the electoral list.

Somehow I believe that they are really so sad themselves, but on the other hand I also want to believe immediately that they have been ordered to stay away demonstratively. That means less risk of a new scandal for the cabinet and the VVD, while it also seems as if the corona rules are taken very seriously in this way. Little effort to drastically reduce the risks of a scandal, right?
