VVD members want a different course: government’s nitrogen policy must be adjusted

Unrest for a long time

There has been unrest in the VVD supporters in the provinces recently, because the provinces have to implement the plans. Local administrators are very concerned about the impact on communities and local culture. Farmers will have to move, make more sustainable or stop. The fuss about this among the VVD supporters at the congress was great. “We hit farmers in the core of their existence, that’s not nice.”

VVD MP Van Campen, the agriculture spokesperson, says that the group can get to work with parts of the motion, but that legal feasibility is also important. “We also have to be honest with the farmers.”

Motion for 130 kilometers per hour adopted

Minister Van der Wal said earlier this week that she has no choice: “We are dealing with a legal decision that is clear and simple: we first have to emit less nitrogen, we first have to restore nature and only then can we get permits again.” The only way to unlock this country is this approach.”

A motion was also passed at the congress to be allowed to drive again 130 kilometers per hour during the day. That was previously reduced to 100 to reduce nitrogen emissions. The plea for driving faster was against the sore leg of some other VVD members. A speaker said he was ashamed of adopting that motion in the current complex situation.

Another VVD member expressed his support for the cabinet policy as follows: “Rather a roof over my head than a piece of bacon on my plate. To achieve that, we have to reduce the livestock”.
