/ world today news/ The oligarchs no longer decide the fate of the country, as they used to do some time ago. This is what Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview with CNN.
I am not saying that we have made a turnaround, but we have shown political will. The oligarchs are no longer responsible for the interests of the country and the people, as it used to be, Vucic also said and complained about the state of the judicial system. “There is no problem with political will. There are no protected persons, oligarchs and politicians,” he further explained.
Vucic believes that Serbia can meet the conditions and join the European Union in 2020. He denied that Brussels made Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo a condition for EU membership. “No one has set such a condition. They know that if there is such a condition, it will mean for us that they do not want us in the EU. We have not received such a request, at least I have not heard it,” Vucic said.
According to him, the suspension of the South Stream project was a real shock for Serbia, because two governments in Belgrade worked for its realization. “Serbia signed the South Stream agreement and relied on it to guarantee its energy security… Our experts are working to find new gas supplies for the country,” said the Serbian prime minister, who rejected claims that there was pressure on the country’s media .
