MALMÖ. Västerås was the first team to upset Malmö FF.
But in the end, the newcomer and excellent goalkeeper Johan Brattberg had to give up – after a goal that was suspected to be offside.
– I would have been upset if I was the referee, says Brattberg.
Norrköping went there with 1–5, Hammarby had no chance and Värnamo was relegated.
Instead, it was newcomers Västerås, with three consecutive 1–0 defeats, who became the first team to be invited. Malmö FF against serious opposition this year in the Allsvenskan – in Malmö to boot.
VSK, which does not seem to be afraid of any opponent in its Allsvenskan comeback, created a couple of hot situations already in the first three minutes that MFF managed with difficulty.
MFF ate into the game and had a couple of heavy shots which Johan Brattberg, who was the best on the pitch, was able to save.
Excited with a quarter to go
The VSK goalkeeper continued to leave Erik Bothheim and Sebastian Nanasi at the start of the second half.
Midway through the second half, it was VSK who came closest to a major goal. With a quarter to go, the home crowd gave their team a boost when Bothheim, in attack, hit a long ball home to Pontus Jansson instead of going forward.
Then the MFF started to be implemented.

Brattberg stood for a new march, this time in the phantom save department, when in the 78th minute, he stopped both a good header on a corner by Derek Cornelius and a Sören Riek finish on the rebound.
But in the 82nd minute, Brattberg and VSK had to give up. Sebastian Nanasi was responsible for a solo number where he deceived/displaced three or four VSK players and ended up putting the winning goal behind a hidden Brattberg.
Outside?
The replays show that it was Bothheim who, in an offside position, appeared to be covering the VSK keeper.
– When I see now after that, maybe I should have responded to the judge, says Brattberg.
When you saw the goal afterwards – would you have been upset if you were the referee?
– Yes, I had.
This was the first Allsvenskan game in a VSK shirt for Brattberg, who came from Häcken this year. He has been benched at the Allsvenskan opener in favor of Anton Fagerström.
– We entered this season with two very good goalkeepers. Anton did very well. Malmö are very strong in set pieces and we needed Johan’s length there. Now he had to make very sharp saves, says VSK coach Kalle Karlsson about the amazing goalkeeping change:
Brattberg on his game:
– Of course I am satisfied with my effort. We are still in the game all the way to the goal. But I want to win too.
The girl towards Djurgården
Sebastian Nanasi has now scored in all of his competitive games this year, both in the Allsvenskan and the cup.
– It is something that is positive and I will try to stick to it, he says.
Now a tight schedule awaits for MFF with three big games in one week: Djurgården away on Thursday, AIK at home on Sunday and the cup final against Djurgården at home next Wednesday.
By this time, Rydström has moved quite a bit in the offensive positions so that the new players are ready for the busy week. But Sebastian Nanasi has started every game and played almost 90 minutes in all of them. Even when MFF led 3-0 at half time against Värnamo last time, he did not replace his scorer but let him play the whole match.
– We hope we can replace him in the 60th against Djurgården when we lead 3-0, laughing Rydström and thus sending a slightly cocky pass to the zoos.
