VR glasses do not drag, so Meta makes them cheaper. Quest 2 and Quest Pro prices have dropped

Last summer, Meta raised the price of the basic Quest 2 VR glasses by $100. At the time, the company defended it with increased costs, as the price of hardware and distribution was rising on the market in general. The model with a capacity of 128 GB suddenly cost 400 dollars, the 256 GB version was 500 dollars.

But surprisingly that week a discount has arrived. The glasses with more storage have dropped to $430, bringing them almost back to their original level. In addition, the company also reduced the price of the Quest Pro model introduced in the fall with better equipment, ergonomics and performance. Instead of $1,500, it will now cost $1,000. The lower price already applies to the USA and Canada, in other countries where the Meta Store is available (not in the Czech Republic), discounts will be available on March 15.

In the Czech Republic, e-shops with unofficial imports have not yet responded to the price adjustment. Quest 2 (256 GB) is sold for 15,500 CZK on average. Last summer it cost 14,000 CZK, before Christmas the price of the glasses jumped up to 16,500 CZK, then slowly fell.

Quest Pro only reached 45,000 CZK in February, which would correspond to the recommended European price of 1,800 euros. During Christmas, however, the merchants also claimed 65,000 CZK.

Ceny Meta Quest 2 a Quest Pro

According to the information of The Verge magazine 20 million Quests have already been sold. An improved Quest 3 should arrive this year. A cheaper pair codenamed Ventura is coming next year, followed by a new high-end one named La Jolla.

But plans can change, because things are boiling inside Meta. The company profit drops dramatically and the costs of the VR division are increasing significantly. Because of this, they will also lay off 11 thousand people and dissolve the development of all hardware, so far with the exception of VR. John Carmack also left Meta before the end of the year. The creator of games such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake acted as the head of technology and oversaw the development of VR glasses Quest since 2013. At that time, he was still at the separate company Oculus.
