“VÖZ Suggests ORF as Publisher for Wiener Zeitung Print Edition”

It is a suggestion that has caught the eye and has been in the media since it was made on Ö1: VÖZ managing director Gerald Grünberger believes that the ORF could act as publisher of the printed edition of the “Wiener Zeitung”. In the “Journal zu Gast” on Saturday, the managing director of the Association of Austrian Newspapers confirmed that there had been takeover offers. And: “Personally, I find it regrettable that the ‘Wiener Zeitung’, which has been a cultural institution in this country for 320 years, has been discontinued.” Then Grünberger explained: “You will be amazed now, and I am now making a suggestion that I also made in advance: We could even have imagined that the ORF as a public law foundation, the ‘Wiener Zeitung’ as a public law medium would have taken over and then really been able to offer the printed word.” That would not contradict the ORF law, stressed Grünberger. This initiative on the part of the VÖZ was quoted in the “Standard” and now also discussed in detail in the “Kronen Zeitung”.
