The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, revealed this Wednesday that he has spoken with the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, about the government agreements in several autonomous communities after the 28M elections, while emphasizing that, although he understands that in some autonomies there may be “exceptions”, Its intention is that Vox have a presence in these executives.
In an interview with TVE, Abascal detailed that he has conveyed to the ‘popular’ leader the need to “attend to the popular mandate” and form a “alternative majority to socialism“in territories such as Extremadura, Aragon and the Balearic Islands, where the Executives are still pending after the elections.
The leader of Vox has regretted that both parties “have lost a month” with the negotiations, in which His party “reached out and has not given up despite the rudeness”in reference to the refusal of the president of the Extremaduran PP, María Guardiola, to agree with them claiming that he could not let in “those who deny sexist violence.”
In this context, Abascal has warned that “it is not possible” for Vox to “give away” their votes in an investiture, which translates into having a presence in the regional governments at stake. Along these lines, he has maintained that previous investiture agreements signed with the PP “were breached,” as in the case of Murcia, stressing that “it is not possible for this to happen again.” The way, according to him, is by being part of the governments.
Without sanitary cord
Thus, Vox will demand entry into all the executives it can, although Abascal has recognized “exceptions” according to autonomies, without mentioning any in particular. Still, his party is “open to dialogue.” “But it seems normal to us that Vox is in governments where there are no absolute majorities,” she insisted, before warning that “They are not going to accept that a cordon sanitaire be applied and the party is treated in a discriminatory manner.
Asked about a possible pact with the PP after the general elections of July 23, Abascal has indicated that It is “reasonable” for Vox to enter the government if they have enough strength, although he has acknowledged that “it is likely” that Feijóo “has some qualms” about agreeing with his team. In his opinion, this objection is due to the fact that the president of the PP “has accepted the mental framework of the left” and believes that they “contaminate” him. But, as he has warned, Vox may think “the same thing” and its formation “does not like many things” about the ‘popular’.
However, after emphasizing that Vox “does not appear in the elections wanting to govern with them”, he has expanded on the idea of common construction of an “alternative majority” to the left bloc. “Democracy is like that, agreements have to be reached when there is no majority,” he said, before reaching out again to the PP. “We are not going to kick the agreement table,” he added.
Entering the central executive is therefore “reasonable” for the Vox leader if the elections determine that they have “important” strength.
