The New Yorkers have voted on the top candidates for the mayoral election in the metropolis.

On Tuesday evening (local time) in the American metropolis of eight million, the polling stations for the primaries of Democrats and Republicans closed – in the liberal stronghold, a Democratic winner is also the most likely winner of the actual election in November. The dominant topics in the election campaign were the economic recovery after the Corona crisis, the increasing number of violent crimes in the city and a possible reform of the police.

According to the first preliminary results, the Democrats were the ex-police officer and district president of Brooklyn, Eric Adams, the former commissioner of the New York City Cleaning, Kathryn Garcia, and the human rights lawyer Maya Wiley in the front seats. However, these are only the first votes. A complicated voting system, which was used for the first time in New York for this election, in which each voter can choose up to five favorite candidates in sequence, the final results could still take weeks.
