Yes, voting started at 6 a.m. sharp.

Although the number of voters is still sparse, the voting procession is expected to continue in earnest once rush hour arrives.

Gangseo-gu, Seoul is the only place in the country where re-elections are being held today.

Today’s voting is taking place at a total of 131 polling places, including the Seoul Botanical Garden polling place.

The number of voters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul in this by-election is 500,603.

The voter turnout for the early voting held for two days starting on the 6th was 22.64%, the highest among all local elections and by-elections in history.

The voter turnout is 1.2 percent, with 6,122 people voting as of 7 a.m. a while ago.

Voting continues until 8 p.m., and unlike early voting, voters can only vote at polling places designated for their residence.

Today, voters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul will receive one ballot to elect the head of Gangseo-gu.

As this is the first election after the COVID-19 ‘quarantine obligation’ was lifted, there are no separate voting times or positive confirmation procedures for confirmed cases.

Voters must bring identification such as a resident registration card, driver’s license, or passport before heading to the polling place, and voting photos can only be taken outside or at the entrance of the polling place.

After voting is over, votes will be counted immediately at one of the counting stations, and the term of office will begin as soon as the winner is determined.

The outline of the winner is expected to be revealed as early as 11pm tonight.
