Voters are behind school projects

In several municipalities in central Switzerland, those eligible to vote approved school projects on Sunday. In Baar ZG there was a 94 million franc loan for the demolition and new construction of the Wiesental school with a yes-vote share of 83 percent (7617 to 1560 votes).

The 50-year-old Wiesental school is being dismantled in stages and replaced by a larger new building. School operations can thus be continued seamlessly. The construction work will extend into 2027.

Today, 2.5 classes per year are taught in the Wiesental school building. The new school building is designed for 4.5 classes. The school building will now also have a triple gymnasium.

The voters of Baar had already approved loans for the expansion of the Sternmatt school in spring and autumn.

Because there are temporarily too few gyms available due to the construction work in the Wiesental schoolhouse in Baar, a temporary facility in the form of an air dome is being built at the Waldmannhalle. Those entitled to vote approved the necessary credit of just under CHF 1 million with a yes-vote ratio of 79 percent.

Kerns OW can invest almost 20 million francs in its school buildings. Those entitled to vote have approved a corresponding credit with a yes-vote share of 74 percent (2471 to 861 votes). The turnout was 76 percent.

The projects in Kerns include the construction of a new primary school, the expansion of the Sidern secondary school and the renovation of other school buildings. The work should be completed in 2025.

In Wollerau SZ, the Riedmatt multi-purpose hall can also be replaced by a new building. The voters of the district of Höfe and the community of Wollerau have approved the project, which cost almost 34 million francs.

The community pays 59 percent of the costs and with a share of 73 percent (2350 to 860 votes, participation 70 percent) said yes. Those eligible to vote in the district spoke out in favor of the new building with a yes share of 74 percent.

The new building not only houses the multi-purpose hall, but also the lunch table, classrooms of the secondary school, the kindergarten, the youth club and rehearsal rooms.
