DONBASS – The referendum on joining Russia continues in the republic of Donbass and in the Russian-controlled areas of southern Ukraine.

By Sunday, voter turnout had already reached the required 50% threshold in the republics of Donetsk and Luhansk and the Zaporozhye region, with only Kherson lagging behind.

In the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), over 76% of eligible voters voted, according to official data.

The referendum in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) went hand in hand, with around 77% of the voters attending the polling stations (TPS).

The Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, which were largely captured by Russian troops during the ongoing conflict, showed lower turnout.

However, the latter region reached the required legal threshold, with about 51.55% of registered voters voting, according to Zaporozhye election committee head Galina Katyshenko.

Kherson has shown lower voter turnout so far, with nearly 49% of voters turning up for the referendum.

The ballot boxes in the two regions and in the republic of Donbass will remain open for the next two days.

Ukraine and its Western supporters rejected the referendum on joining Russia as illegal and vowed not to recognize them regardless of the outcome.
