Last year, everyone interested had a say in the motif of the new Christmas ball. In 2024 everyone is called upon to cast their vote for their favorite motif – vote in Gießen now!
Worrying about Christmas in April? Sounds strange, but when it comes to the Giessen Christmas ball, you have to plan well in advance.
The choice of motif, the first drafts, the prototypes and finally the production of the ball: This takes weeks and so it has to start early so that the Giessen Christmas ball can be delivered on time in November.
Since the 5th anniversary of the Giessen Christmas ball in 2023, those interested have been able to have a say in the motif of the new ball. After the vote was close last year, the Johanneskirche will be in the running again in 2024 and will compete against the Giessen Botanical Garden and the chapel in the Old Cemetery.
Gießen Marketing asks everyone who is interested to cast their vote for one of the motifs. For production reasons, it is not possible to vote on the finished Christmas motif, but only on the template for the later motif.
Voting is now open www.giessen-direkt.de up to and including April 28, 2024 possible. The result will then be published and the finished Christmas ball will then be available at the tourist information office from November 2024.

The popular collector’s item appeared for the first time in 2019 with the city church tower as a Christmas motif. Just 120 pieces were produced and after just a few days they were sold out. It was clear that Giessen Marketing had hit a nerve with the Giessen Christmas ball.
The following year’s motif with the city theater was also sold out after just 10 days, although the quota was increased to 240. Since 2021, the balls have been numbered and therefore even more interesting as a collector’s item. Despite the pandemic that occurred in the same year, this ball also sold out quickly.
In 2022 the choice fell on the Old Castle. In 2023, the motif was allowed to be chosen by everyone interested for the first time and the Liebig Museum won by a wide margin.
