Today, January 20, 2023, the voting for the “European Best Destinations 2023” starts, for which the city of Essen was nominated along with 19 other European cities. Reasons for inclusion in the top 20 list are the cultural and touristic offers of the city as well as the quality of life and the sustainable development of Essen. Until February 10, users can access the website europeanbestdestinations.com/european-best-destinations-2023 vote for food. And this even daily. The winning city not only receives the winning title, but is also advertised intensively in major international newspapers and magazines such as “National Geographic” or “Vogue” for a year. Richard Röhrhoff, Managing Director of EMG – Essen Marketing GmbH: “Essen was selected as one of 20 cities from a total of 400 European cities. That in itself is a great honor. If we should now manage to vote Essen for first place, we are gaining an unprecedented advertising effect, from which both the economy and tourism in Essen will benefit enormously in the years to come.”
If the jump to first place does not succeed, Essen will still be advertised with the other cities for a year with a total advertising budget of 1.6 million euros to European media representatives and tourism professionals as the top European travel destination 2023, should Essen be among the top 10 come, even with around 10 million euros. It was only in December that EMG’s International Christmas Market in Essen made sixth place among the 20 markets nominated for the “European Best Christmas Market 2023”. Essen was far ahead of the German competition from Rothenburg, Dresden and Trier.
